Former White House Chief of Staff testifies in election interference probe
Meadows was questioned about his role in questioning the results of the 2020 presidential election
ATLANTA (AP) — Mark Meadows, former President Donald Trump's final White House chief of staff, testified in a federal courtroom in Georgia on Monday that he helped question the results of the 2020 presidential election in the state.
Meadows was subpoenaed by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, who is investigating whether Trump and his allies interfered in the election. Meadows is one of several Trump allies who have been subpoenaed in the investigation.
During his testimony, Meadows said that he was present at a meeting in the Oval Office on Jan. 2, 2021, where Trump and his allies discussed how to overturn the election results. Meadows said that he did not participate in the discussion, but he did take notes.
Meadows also testified that he communicated with Trump and his allies about the election results after the meeting. He said that he helped to arrange a call between Trump and Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, in which Trump pressured Raffensperger to "find" enough votes to overturn the election results.
Meadows' testimony is significant because it provides firsthand account of the efforts by Trump and his allies to overturn the election results. Meadows' testimony could help Willis to build a case against Trump and his allies.
