Drag Queens Outrage at Olympic Opening Ceremony

The Last Supper Tableau Draws Ire

Protests Erupt Over Obese Jesus and Queer Representation

In a controversial display at the 2024 Olympic opening ceremony, a reinterpretation of Leonardo da Vinci's "The Last Supper" depicted Jesus as an obese woman, surrounded by queer and transgender performers.

The tableau, part of a performance by Mr. Katerine, sparked outrage from conservative groups, including Tesla CEO Elon Musk and GOP pundits, who denounced it as disrespectful and blasphemous.

According to Louise Marshall, an honorary senior lecturer, the performance featured at least 17 drag queens, significantly more than the twelve apostles depicted in the original painting. Critics argued that this deviation from tradition undermined the sanctity of religious symbolism.

In response to the backlash, Forbes published an article entitled "Olympics Drag Queen Last Supper Sparks Outrage," highlighting the controversy surrounding the performance.

Despite the criticism, the drag performance was praised by many for its inclusivity and representation of marginalized communities. Supporters argued that it sent a message of acceptance and challenged traditional gender roles.
