Since the beginning of 2023, the province of Cavite in the Philippines has experienced a significant increase in seismic activity. However, there have also been several larger events, including a 6.2-magnitude earthquake that struck on March 20, 2023. This quake caused widespread damage to buildings and infrastructure in the province.
The recent surge in seismic activity in Cavite is likely related to the ongoing movement of the Philippine Fault System, a major tectonic fault line that runs through the country. The fault is responsible for a number of large earthquakes in the Philippines, including the devastating 7.8-magnitude earthquake that hit Luzon in 1990.
